The Moscow Church that Became a Swimming Pool

The story goes that the Soviets decided to take one of the oldest most beautiful and sacred Cathedrals of Orthodox Christianity and turn it into a swimming pool. So there were all these atheist communists fully satisfied with themselves doing laps in the pool. The irony of the story is that Christians consider “Baptism”  as sacred immersion. So here on hallowed ground, these very same atheists had subjected themselves to the work of the Holy Spirit. I am convinced that many of these swimmers today are converted Christians.
It further comes as no surprise to me, at least, that the same church has been ‘restored’.  Having Baptist roots I can most appreciate this but do hope that the Orthodox do as well. The Lord works in mysterious ways. Today, I walked into this church and felt an incredible lightness of being, as one feels, when one is near the miraculous.  This church is a miracle. The people associated with it are as well.  The mother and child are loving here as only the mother and child can be.  I lit a candle and prayed. What else is there to do in the presence of the Holy.DSCN1354DSCN1355DSCN1356DSCN1357DSCN1429
